Federal Skilled Worker

Skilled workers are people that are chosen as permanent resident based on their education, work experience, knowledge of English/French other factors. There are various programs under which one can apply.

Federal Skilled Worker Program

This program is for skilled workers who want to become permanent residents based on being qualified in a skilled trade.

1. Have required language ability.
2. Have 2 years of full-time work experience or equal amount of part-time work experience in a skilled trade within the 5 years.
3. Fulfill job requirements for qualifying skilled trade as per the National Occupational Classification.
4. Have valid job offer of full-time employment for at least 1 year or certificate of qualification in that skilled trade issued by Canadian provincial territorial or federal authority.

Canadian Experience Class

The Canadian Experience Class is for skilled workers who have Canadian work experience and want to become permanent residents. Individual wishing to apply under this category needs to have at least 1-year experience as a skilled worker in Canada in the last 3 years before you apply either full time or equal amount of part-time working in Canada legally.

Self-employment and work experience attained while you were a full-time student (such as a co-op work term) doesn’t count under this program.
